Urn for my Father, 2019
Urn made of earth my father and I gathered from the bank of the Silvies River in Eastern Oregon where he wants his ashes spread. Together we dug 100oz, the approximate weight of his future remains, and designed an urn. One day, his body will be the reciprocal for the volume of earth we took.
Artwork includes a photograph documenting clay collection, a conversation and urn design session with my immediate family members and an interview with my father about this process, generational change, and taking care of his parents. The interview was published in Refuge.
